Better Half Farm
It all started with sunflowers. The other half would plant sunflowers in the field for me each year. Looking at those beautiful sunflowers each day ignited a dream of growing sunflowers for others to enjoy. Growing sunflowers turned into growing flowers throughout the year.
While the flower farm name is a play off the age old term for your spouse, and a little marriage ribbing to my farming husband. Don't let that fool you, he's been the backbone and my #1 supporter on the farm. He's been in charge of the tractor work, irrigation installer, soil sampler, and bug identifier. He is truly the better half.
When starting, researching and taking classes, it was repeated how much work was involved in being a flower farmer. While I believed what was being said, I have always been in the mindset that I can do anything I put my mind to. It didn't take long before I waived the white flag and realize I needed help.
We now have two people helping on the flower farm. LeAnna (pictured) in her freshman year at ABAC, was in the FFA program at Colquitt County High School where she cultivated her love of agriculture.
There are always opportunities to help out on the farm from seed starting, planting, harvesting and everything in between. Flower farm is active through the year and opportunities available Monday through Friday 8am-1pm.
